Total value of the project is 8 M EUR, developed and implemented by Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). The city of Belgrade and the Government of Serbia co-financed project with 1.5 M EUR.

Project includes construction of a biomass-fired CHP (investment 2.6 M EUR), construction of heat and hot water distribution network (investment 2.6 M EUR), and implementation of energy efficiency measures in the Olga Petrov primary school and the hospital “Dr Laza Lazarević” that will be the main consumers of heat (investment 2.6 M EUR). In addition to heating of school and hospital, the heat will be supplied for heating of 20,000 sq. meters of greenhouses owned by Belgrade Agricultural Corporation (PKB), who will be the main provider of the fuel – soya straw. Installed capacity of biomass CHP plant will be 4 MWth + 600 kWe.

Pilot biomass boiler with “cigarette” combustion

The project is extension of the pilot project implemented in 2008 by the Laboratory for Thermal Engineering and Energy of the “Vinča” Institute and PKB, that included development of 1.5 MWth biomass boiler, with cigarette combustion, fuelled with soya straw.
